Olivia wanted to fund her own funeral but could now find herself buried at sea after becoming the 21st member of the 1p Club.
Noel welcomed Olivia to the Pound Table. Olivia is now retired but had worked as a Doctor’s receptionist, which is quite apt considering her surname is Cartilage. Olivia talked about staying busy now she’s retired and running the Bingo at her local social club. She is also well known for her infamous annual trips to Benidorm where she takes along a gaggle of grannies for some wild nights. So it was surprising to hear that Olivia’s reason to come on Deal or No Deal was to fund her own funeral! She had brought a homemade good luck card to the table which had a sealed box seven on the front. Olivia had unbelievably chosen box seven at random for her game, Noel couldn’t wait to have a peek but Olivia wanted to open the box on the card at the end.
Before the game began Olivia mentioned she felt self-conscious because she had planned to have a haircut and wanted to wear different shoes. To help Olivia feel more comfortable, Noel kindly offered her his shoes meaning he had to wear hers!
£1 and £10,000 began round one. Noel then offered the lucky hat to Olivia so she could hide her hair. £35,000, £1,000 and £3,000 concluded the round. With only one blue found the Banker offered a reasonable £4,000. Olivia thought her funeral was worth more than that – No Deal.
As round two got underway Noel decided Olivia’s shoes were too small so opted for Daniel’s big size 11’s. £100,000 made Olivia want to start her game again but Noel tried to remain positive and 10p helped to restore some faith. Daniel’s big shoes were too smelly for Noel so he went backstage and found a pair of Deal or No Deal Wellington boots. £500 finished the round and balanced the board. The Banker was slightly worried and stuck at £4,000 – No Deal.
Finding the £10 and £15,000 wasn’t going to make the Banker offer more than £4,000. Noel thought this could be the first time where the Banker made the same offer throughout the game. £20,000 was then wiped from the board. The Banker described Noel as ‘prophetic’ and offered the inevitable £4,000. Along with the funeral, Olivia also wanted to take her family on safari so she decided to – No Deal.
£100 got the Pilgrims rocking before Cyril produced £250,000, which brought everyone back to Earth. “There goes my dream” said a despondent Olivia. £50 completed the fourth round. The Banker played ‘The funeral march’ to accompany his offer and to symbolise the end of her game. He then went on to say he thought the current 22 contestants were going to be the cheapest we have ever had. The Banker lowered the offer to £1,500. “Keep positive” said Geena and Olivia agreed – No Deal.
50p and £5,000 made a good start to a quick fifth round. Noel rushed over to Pat and pulled her in front of the board to mask the two remaining reds. The tactic didn’t work, £35,000 concluded the round. A relived Banker was preparing an offer in excess of £10,000. Instead the Banker offered a ‘lifeline’ of £3,000. Matt suggested opening the box on the card prematurely to help Olivia decide. Olivia agreed and Noel flipped the lid on box seven to see £35,000, which didn’t help her. Olivia was still struggling with the offer when Dot blurted out “Is it enough to bury you with?” Olivia knew it was only enough for a basic service so decided to – No Deal.
Olivia needed to miss the £75,000 in the final round; £5 was the perfect start. Lois believed she had the 1p but unveiled the dreaded £75,000 instead. Noel wondered if Olivia was going to become the 21st member of the 1p club. £250 concluded the round. “Make room on the barge” said the joyous Banker. He offered £35 – No Deal. Olivia declined the swap so Noel flipped the lid on box seven to reveal the 1p, which confirmed Olivia’s status as number 21. “That’s how it goes” said a deflated Olivia. Noel hoped her funeral wouldn’t happen for a long time. However there was going to be one death on the show, Noel conceded the lucky hat needed to be buried.
